…He instead chose to challenge himself with the difficult technique of linoleum engraving. Using bold lines and sharp chiaroscuro contrasts, softened only by subtle hand-applied touches of color, he introduced the female figure into his material expressionism, interpreting it as the “Great Mother”, a divine entity that generates nature and grants fertility. The title, “Nativity”, thus evokes not only the Christian tradition but also more ancient and primal symbolisms.
